A Tapestry Of Faith: Renewal's Connection To The Broader Church Family

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

At Renewal, we love to talk about being "More than Us" and being a family. One of the ways we do this is through our connection to the broader church family.

One of the things we have loved to do is see the great stuff that other church networks are doing and be a part of it. But more officially we find our roots in two different streams of church.

Renewal was planted out of the Vineyard church movement in 2018. The Vineyard is a church movement that was started by John Wimber in the 1970s and became known for practical down to earth teaching, leaning into the power of the Holy Spirit and worship. But we have also found in the Anglican network a great supportive relationship with Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London who have relationally walked with us as we planted out.

HTB launched the Alpha course and have been marked by a mission to evangelise the nations and bring social transformation to those around us. These have been two things we have tried to walk with passionately as we look to love on the least, the last and the lost in our community.

As they have grown, they have planted around 150 churches across the UK and now have 4 other churches globally which they consider as part of their family which includes us at Nairobi.

We love being able to learn from the great stuff they are doing and ground it in our contextual experience here. As we pray this week, let us offer up the wider church family as we love on them, encourage them and seek God for them.
