Renewal Church Small Group Sunday Plan – 22nd March

While fear pushes people towards isolation, we believe that fear is different from caution. In the light of everything that is happening in our world right now, we want to take safe steps to stay connected in healthy ways. We believe that the way of Jesus involves becoming people of non-anxious presence, and we can best do that together. Please spend time reading through the following guide in order to be prepared for your gathering this Sunday.

  • The host should clean frequently touched surfaces and communal areas in their home.

  • Make sure that you have access to some means of watching and listening to the teaching. (e.g. laptop, tv with internet access, etc.)

  • Please read and remind everyone about simple health protocols (20 seconds of hand washing, sanitising and that folk should stay at home if feeling unwell)

  • See if there are guests keen to attend remotely.  If so, set up a Google Duo group on phones.  It is very easy for virtual guests to download the Duo app and you can allow them to attend and contribute virtually through a Duo group call - for more information please click here.

  • Note: this gathering should last around 75 minutes.

In order to ensure the safety and health of those gathering together, we recommend the following precautions be taken before and after people gather:

  • Guests should not attend if they are sick, might be sick, or have any reason to think they have been exposed to coronavirus.

  • Make sure shared surfaces (e.g. door knobs, light switches, countertops) are disinfected before and after each gathering.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly (more than 20 seconds with soap and warm water) upon arrival and upon returning home.

  • If served, serve food and drink individually and with washed hands.

  • Avoid shaking hands or hugging (& holy kissing!)

The service:

Spend time centering on God’s presence through worship, learning from the scriptures, praying, and just spending time together.

Many of us think of worship as a time to sing with a band at church. But worship is somuch more than that. To worship is to turn your attention and affection towards God in adoration and awe. Below are a few suggestions for worshipping with your small group on a Sunday:

  • If someone in your Community is able to lead worship through song, spend some time singing together.

  • If you don’t have someone who can lead worship through song, here are a few other options:

    • Listen and sing along to Daniel’s selected worship songs by clicking here

    • Pick a few Psalms and read them out loud together. For this week we recommend Psalms 8, Psalm 63 and Psalm 91.

    • Spend a few minutes expressing gratitude out loud to God.

Families make up a large part of Renewal , so children should be a part of your small group Church experience.

Abi has prepared an activity sheet that is suitable for children, click here for the resources. You can either do this at a separate time or have one person go out and help lead this time, whatever works best for your group.

We recognise in this season that as a church we want to model generosity and particularly as people begin to feel the financial strains of lack of work and economic downturn we want to be able to play our part in assisting not only our church community but the poor, hurting and vulnerable across our city.

To continue to do this we are asking for those that can to partner with us, perhaps more than ever before, to allow us to be a light in this season.

Take a few minutes to practice generosity.  You can give via Paybill.  Details are as follows:

Business No: 551727

Account No: 1006169356

After giving pray for the offering and the way in which people can be helped through it.

Watch this week’s teaching on the above clip

After listening, discuss the following questions

  • How have you felt during the last week? What have been your emotions and responses?

  • How has your relationship with God been?

  • What practical ways do you think you can act in this season?

To conclude your gathering, spend some time in prayer together. Begin with a few minutes in silence, listening for what God might have to say to you or to your group in this moment, then share what came to mind. After a few minutes of listening and sharing, spend time praying for:

  • Eradication of coronavirus and healing for those who are sick

  • Followers of Jesus to be a presence of peace and love in our city

  • Any needs in your group.
